The BLM released its Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the "Western Oregon Plan Revisions (WOPR)" in August 2007. This outrageous proposal, governing 2.6 million acres of public forest, would boost logging of trees 200 years and older sevenfold over the next decade. This huge increase in logging would come from opening up currently protected streamside forests and old-growth reserves to clearcutting. Click here for more information on the BLM's proposed plan in a Citizen's Guide to the WOPR.

TAKE ACTION!

The public commenting period for the BLM proposal ended on January 11, 2008. We expect the BLM to issue a decision in late 2008. Now its time to turn to Congress!

1. Contact your Senators and ask that they appropriate money to accomplish fire safety and forest restoration work, while protecting watersheds and ancient forests.

2.  Submit a Letter to the Editor to your local or regional newspaper. Click here for addresses and word limits for Oregon's major newspapers.

3. Ask your friends, family and neighbors to do the same.

The BLM is proposing to clearcut our old-growth heritage, muddy our waters and harm our salmon, at a time when there is consensus on thinning second-growth. Click here to take action.
